This research proposal shall focus upon an evaluation of the Deplorable conditions of the Lecture halls of Ghana University and how does the lack of adequate infrastructure impact and effect the Career and learning of the students. Starting with a brief background, Ghana is a country still struggling to reach up to a decent development phase. The country has been categorised as Least Developed Country due to its deprivation of adequate and reasonable resources. West Africa is the region where the country lies and despite the fact that Africa is abundant in natural resources it comes under this category of being Least Developed Nation. A study has evidenced that the primary reason for the backwardness of the nation is Lack of Educational Awareness and ignorance of adequate educational support to the children there by the Government in order to support their political objectives (Amankwa, 2018).
The Educational system of Ghana is not at all well structured and lacks the basic academic etiquettes which are the base for any academic institution in order to initiate the learning process for the students. Education is the most important resource for any Nation and thus is the major component which actually makes the difference between countries being categorised as Least developed and Developed (Aboagye, 2021). The stressing point which needs to be addressed by the concerned authorities in Ghana is the Deplorable and Unacceptable conditions of the lecture halls of the Ghana university (Ghana Web, 2020).
The Government to some extent has tried to upbring its least development position to a Developed one but certain loopholes are there which reflects the government’s negligence in doing so. The deplorable and continuously defragmenting situations and conditions of the Infrastructure of the academic institutions that is to say in this context University of Ghana is a clear reflection of the Government’s negligence and restlessness. The students of the University have shown their resentment against this kind of Infrastructure. The study has suggested that, an academic institution in order to teach the students well primarily needs to have a decent and reasonable infrastructure so as to create a congenial atmosphere for the learned as well as the learners (Korentang, 2019). The academic performance of the student is largely dependent upon the quality of Infrastructure they are introduced to and a Journal study has found that the manner in which a school or an academic institution is designed and the infrastructure so designed is responsible for more than 16 percent variation in a reasonable student’s academic progress and has also shown that education infrastructure affects learning in three respects mainly which are Individualisation, naturalness and stimulation (Barrett & Davies, 2016).
A recent study have suggested that the Overcrowding of the students in the lecture halls of the university is the concern which needs to be addressed and the authorities need to take cognizance of the same as early as possible (Marais, 2016). A general study on the impact of over crowding on the students in African Universities have shown that this is a chronic problem which triggers the continuous diminishing of the quality as well as the quantity and is one of the major hindrances to effective learning and reduces the scope of achievement of Educational goals (Akech, 2016). The lack of adequate facilities and infrastructure has actually deprived many capable candidates of taking admission in the university the only reason being the lack of proper facilities and studying space in the institution (Sawyerr, 2014).
The negligence on part of the State and college authorities has actually led to the inclusion of Private players and corporates in this sector the pressure of which in turn comes up on the student. The University being a central government university is established with a view to provide the benefits of academic learning to capable students without considering their financial capacities but as the situations of Ghana suggest the consequences of private players entering indirectly in the university establishment has forced the government to fetch the burden of profits lying with those privates from the students studying in the university (Manuh, 2015).
This would lead to many students who despite of having requisite potential and capabilities end up with no admission. It can only be named as a laboratory and nothing else, this is because the laboratories are short of Chemicals, Experimenting instruments, Human dummies and all the other relevant and necessary instruments.
The government shall stress and focus upon improving the conditions and situations of its lecture halls and institutions as a whole without involving any private players so as to avoid burdening the students financially or else if it hires private players in order to make the desired improvements than it shall bear the cost and make it the part of Revenue Expenditure of the government.
The target informants for this paper titled “Analysis of Deplorable Conditions of Lecture and Academic Halls of Ghana” are basically Academicians, Students, University Authorities and Professionals who are an active part of these Universities and Academic Institutions. Herein with is attached a brief interview guide which shall state and define some major components which shall be compulsorily considered by the Interviewer in order to seek honest opinions and reviews of the target audience. The points are discussed as under:
The interviewer must establish to the informants the purpose for which the interview needs to be conducted and the reasons for doing so. The interviewer shall not act pointless while conducting an interview. Anything done without a specific purpose or any reason shall be deemed as doing no thing which simply means in this context that the interviewer must mention to the target participants why is their specific participation is needed for a specific interview and how will it match with the purpose of the interview and expectations of the interviewer therefore.
Whenever, an interviewer initiates the process of interviewing the target informants he/she shall ensure the comfortability of those targeted to be interviewed. If an interviewer directly progresses with the interview questions the participant/Informant may or may not be willing or be comfortable to share honest reviews and opinions and even deny to be interviewed. The purpose of this small discussion shall be to comfort the participant and ensure a reasonable opinion and answers from the participant in reference to the interview questions asked thereafter.
There may be situations wherein the participant may not be able to directly understand what the interviewer is trying to ask and he/she may land up giving lengthy answers which may be irrelevant to the subject of interviewer. In such cases the interviewer shall patiently listen to the answers of the participant and try to fetch out the parts which are relevant to interviewer.
The interviewer shall strictly restrict himself/herself to listening the opinions and suggestions of the participant and avoid presenting personal opinion on the subject of the interview.
