Electric car has been a sensational invention in the last decade. The development of technologies resulting the cars of everyday use make better performance by using electric as a source of power. In this essay, the discussion will be centred round the idea of popularizing the idea of electric cars, their advantages and disadvantages in order to come across the idea of futuristic technologies that can enhance the resource of power to utilize in transportation system (Larcher and Tarascon, 2015).
In the period of 19th and 20th century the progression of electrical vehicle happened. In that period of time, the Electric Automobile was popularized due to the low cost effectiveness, easier to handling, cheaper than fuel powered vehicles and low maintenance cost. But, people eventually bowed down to fuel powered vehicles. During the 20th century, the electric cars lost popularity in the growing market of automobile industry. Here, the main possible factor is the invention of automatic starter and growth of cheap fuel.
After some decades General Motors revealed their first electric car and helped electric cars getting attention and popularity. After 1990, people started to believe that electric cars can change the dimension of futuristic transportation. There are many advantages and disadvantages in electric cars that makes the invention futuristic, innovative as well as a drawback to the technological advancements.
Electric cars consist of many advantages rather than a fuel based car. One of the main advantages of electric car is that it can save a lot money on the fuel cost by replacing gasoline with electricity. Electric car also effects less to the environment by emitting less carbon in the nature (Halbey, Kowalewski and Ziefle 2015). Thus, it can help making a greener planet tomorrow and save money as well. It can be a better alternative in order to fight environmental issues like air pollution and global warming. One more thing is electric cars take less parts to move than fuel powered vehicles, therefore an electric car is more simple and efficient, and these features make electric cars more reliable in terms of maintenance.
An invention comes with many advantages as well disadvantages, the electric cars are no exception of that fact. One of the biggest disadvantage of electric cars is its high dollar prototype stage (Degirmenci and Breitner 2017). Car manufacturing companies are yet to solve all the factors that can make electric cars to meet all the safety requirements before purchasing and driving on the road. In other aspect, electric cars can take a half day to recharge and reuse (Wilberforce et al. 2017). It can take 4 to 8 hours to fully recharge a car battery, whereas a combustion powered engine takes only a minute to refuel the gasoline and make a ride. Manufacturers are way behind to invent a technology that can charge electric cars in few minutes. This requires a lot of research as well as investments from the car brands to continue the progression. In order to make this investments look attractive in the future the governments of many countries also subsidizing the projects to make a better tomorrow and reduce global warming.
