The screening program is a kind of representation, which is organized to detect the early signs of any kind of disease, by which a person is suffering. In this, the process after taking a proper diagnosis the person will offer further treatments to recover. The purpose of the screening process is to identify the healthy people within a particular population and finding out which person has the prior chances to get affected. A genuine screening program should hold in every business organization to detect the employees who might get affected by some critical diseases and then give proper treatments. The drug and alcohol screening program is a must need a screening program for the employees to detect the affected employees, who might get into some troubles while working. Taking drugs or alcohol while working in a reputed corporate organization is a punishable offense. Every reputed organization has its own ethics and values; the employee who does such a punishable offense is breaking the organization law and ethics (Agarwal et al., 2015). Also, any kind of serious health injury might have occurred with the employee who is intoxicated with drugs or alcohol, so the company has to suffer for paying the compensation for the employees to own fault.
People tend to take drugs and alcohol to release their nerves and used them to relax and uncoil after a long working day. Every day millions of people are fiddled with huge responsibilities including workplace and households. Every person, who works within a corporate farm has to take too many commitments and workloads, so rely on alcohol or some other kinds of drugs to become tension free. There are so many brief statistics that show that there is a corporation between employment and drug use, which may project a broad series of high negative impacts on the organization. Drug problems cannot be easily treated as alcohol problems. Usage of alcohol can be mitigated by forbidding the person but a drug-addicted person gets fierce when they are forbidden from using drugs (Crosgrove et al., 2015). Drug usage breakdowns normal thinking ability and anger management, so a person does not able to recognize what is right and what is wrong. Drug and usage will seriously affect the workplace culture and ethics. The people who regularly use drugs and alcohol might affect the employees who did not use drugs. A huge financial burden of any organization might be caused by drug use and alcoholism. Every person including supervisors, project team members, coworkers, etc may get affected by the alcoholic employee due to his rude behavior and not attending the tasks properly.
The organization is focusing on the proper screening program related to drugs and alcohol usage. All the employees around 3000 staff, such as delivery drivers, warehouse workers, administration staff and executives. The organization has two buildings located in a short walk away; all the employees of those two buildings are requested to join the screening program. The CEO of the organization has detected an organization, which offers an online screening process and that company claims that the screening results are 95% on an accuracy basis. Several different kinds of screening processes are there to perform within the organization. The most frequent form of the screening process is the pre-employment screening, in this process; the new employees are gone through the process of screening so that no intoxicated employees may enter into the organization. In addition, the screening process should be done to the existing employees before they are promoted or after returning from a long extended vacation. There are six recommended best practices, which might be implemented to select the affected persons among the employees (Cascio, 2015). The following practices will give the best results of implementing the screening process.
All the employees should be notified before one week of holding the screening test procedure. There should be an awareness camp before the program and the employees are requested to join the camp. At first, identifying the employees who are intoxicated is the base of the screening program. An employee, who is highly intoxicated, may not want to participate in the screening process. There are some primary ways to detect an employee, who is alcoholic such as lack of coordination, has bloodshot eyes, unable to complete work assignments, sweats heavily, slurry speech becomes pale and nauseous, etc. (McCambridge and Saitz, 2017). All the employees should concern about the different reasons why they should not be intoxicated while working (Sameen and Cornelius, 2015). They must be guided by some regulations and follow the rules of their reputed organization. The organization commission creates six individual recommendations for their employees. They are as follows-
The screening test of drugs and alcohol is a kind of corporate social responsibility. The CEO considered that the screening process would hold once in a month for all the employees. She approaches some discussions on the benefits of the screening process and the negative impacts of drug and alcohol usage. The CEO is well awarded by the recent incident of a particular organization, which has to pay compensation to an injured employee who had been tested positive to cannabis. The CEO does not want that kind of incident to occur in this organization, so she gives pressure on the screening process of drug and alcohol intake. Workplace health and safety management should be properly followed by the organization. All the employees are requested to follow organization ethics and maintain their health properly.
